Studies on the Pathogenic Role of Aerobic and Anaerobic EntericBacteria

Abstract
The bacteria were isolated from the stools of various patients and the factors which influence on the toxicity or pathogenicity of entericbacteria were studied. The following results were obtained.
The aerobic bacteria were isolated from the stools of 133 patients and the bacteria isolated frequently were as follows.
In acute gastroenteritis patients, the K pneumominiae and Group D Streptococcus were frequently isolated besides E. coli. In salmonellosis patients, various types of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus were frequently isolated besides E. coli and Salmonella. In shigellosis patients, the K pneumonia was also frequently isolated besides S. flexneri and E. coli. In the stools from patients with inflammatory diseases of various organs, the isolation rates of, besides E. coli, Proteus, E. cloacae and Streptococcus were relatively high. On the other hand, from the stools of patients with functional diseases of various organs, the C, freundii, various types of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, besides E. coli, were frequently isolated.
From the normal stools, the C. freundii and E. cloacae, besides E colt, were much isolated. On the contrary, the watery or diarrheal stools showed relatively higher number of the cocci such as various types of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus besides E. coli
The anaerobic bacteria were isolated from the stools of 32 patients and no any special relationship between the disease and isolation rate of special bacteria was found. However, the B. fragilis, Peptostreptococcus and Clostridium were frequently isolated regardless of the diseases.
The toxic action of the mixture of dysentery bacilli and various non-pathogenic entericbacteria was a little stronger than that of each bacterium alone.
The toxic action of lysogenic dysentery bacilli was stronger than that of non-lysogenic bacteria. If the dysentery bacilli are changed to phage resistant one, the toxic action was considerably reduced.
The mouse virulence of lysogenic dysentery bacilli was remarkably stronger than that of non-lysogenic bacteria.
If the prophage is removed from the lysogenic E. coli, the toxic action of bacteria was a little weakened. The mouse resistance to dysentery bacilli was considerably weakened at cold temperature.
The mouse mortality by injection, at the same time, of the S. aureus and various non-pathogenic entericbacteria was remarkably higher than that by injection of each bacterium alone.
By the above results, it is believed that various factors of bacteria itself and environment have influence on the pathogenic role of entericbacteria.
